A few days ago, Justin Hartley shared his thoughts on how his character, Oliver Queen (aka The Green Arrow), will be portrayed on season nine of Smallville.
In a nutshell: Oliver may need to buy a helmet, he’ll be falling off the wagon this fall.
Now, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor expounds on upcoming storylines for The CW hit. For example, will he face off with Zod?

“I have the good sense in my head to let Clark deal with [him],” Hartley said. “I’ll stick to dealing with the ladies. Why would I start something with that guy? That guy looks tall in photos. I don’t need a piece of that guy.”
As for more general Smallville scoop, the actor confirmed that a portion of it will be focus on Oliver confronting his demons.
“I think he is going to struggle with the things he has been afforded [as a result of] his powers. He has sacrificed things and done things that haunt him… It’s bad stuff. We need to get to the bottom of it.”
Casting notices have gone out for “Alia,” a “beautiful, sexy femme fatale assassin with mysteriously intimate ties to Clark and Krypton.” She’s an expert fighter, especially with a throwing star and a sword. They’re looking for a martial arts background, and this role will recur.
Another female soldier who is described as “sexy and hot” is “Fiona.” She wears a faded military jacket and turns against her leader. Together with another soldier named “Basqat” she imprisons her leader. This role may recur too.

If this is hoax, it’s a good one, as it comes with a few bits of convincing detail we are not sharing with you.
Someone has written us, claiming to have gotten a glimpse of some signage being prepared for next month’s “Smallville” presentation at Comic-Con. His or her description:
On black, with crimson/red text in the same font lettering that Smallville uses, and a transparent grey Superman “S” watermark behind the text:
METROPOLIS
CHRISTMAS 2010
Then at the bottom is a banner advertising the Smallville presentation, with the time/place (can’t remember).
Other info this untested source sent us suggests “Metropolis” is a movie-length project, and not a new series.
Word is “Smallville” will conclude its 9-year run May 2010, so it makes sense that the CW would tack on a couple more production hours up there in Canada to make a Superman TV-movie that would run seven or so months after the series’ conclusion.
But what if Tom Welling isn’t putting on the red cape for the small screen? It doesn’t seem like 18 months is enough time to slap together a big-screen “Smallville” sequel, but I also seem to remember Warner Bros. kicking the first three episodes of “Clone Wars” to cinemas without a lot of notice.
This comes from an untested source, self-described as “Yoda’s Bitch,” so kindly take it all as rumor.
The Smallville universe got a little shot in the arm when news that Brian Austin Green has come on board as Metallo, that metal-clad villain who’s powered by kryptonite. (Which type, I wonder?) What’s interesting, actually, is the way they plan to introduce his character in the upcoming season. According to TVGuide.com, John Corben–that’s his alter ego, by the way–will be introduced into the series filling in for a missing Clark Kent, presumably because he’s gone blurry during the time.
The show’s producers are actually having a field time with this casting coup. “Every once in a while, the stars align and allow you to bring a character to the screen the way you originally envisioned,” executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders said. “We introduced John Corben into the storyline with Brian in mind, and are thrilled to see him embody this iconic DC villain.”
Considering that they had to see Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles canceled, Body Politic not picked up, and One Tree Hill dance the fandango, there can only be one explanation for this… stars a-lign-ing! (Or, in the words of Denzel Crocker, “fairy-god-par-ents!”)
Apparently, these producers also planned to take back Sam Witwer, after his run as Davis Bloome slash Doomsday throughout the last season. That plan for a multi-episode arc was tossed when the actor decided he didn’t plan on returning. Maybe you can say that’s another factor in seeing Metallo take shape.
Another question in the Smallville universe is, well, the prospect of yet another spin-off. (Wasn’t it only lately when Laura Vandervoort revealed that there were plans for a Supergirl spin-off?) Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reported that speculation revolving a spin-off has returned, now that the show is on its ninth, and presumavbly last, season. (You should’ve sensed that when the CW moved the show to Fridays.) Whose character, then? Crazy thought alert–will the stars really align for Brian this time? Told you, crazy thought.

Smallville - Brian Austin Green Joins Cast as Metallo
Brian Austin Green has been cast on Smallville as the DC Comics villain Metallo, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
That’s right — the Terminator alum is now playing a cyborg himself.
Green will appear as the kryptonite-powered villain (alter ego “Daily Planet” journo John Corben) in at least the first two episodes of Season 9, which kicks off Friday, Sept. 25.
For a moment, there was a lot of talk about whether a Supergirl spin-off will be made from whatever happens to Smallville. Kara–uhh, Laura Vandervoort–did the role pretty well, and when her short role suddenly found itself settling for the whole of the most recent season, well, the questions are inevitable. And then she gets a role on the upcoming ABC series V–also a sci-fi inspired ditty–and her future is in question. The usual liners await. Will she, or won’t she?
“I couldn’t tell you,” she simply said. “[The producers] called and asked me for what they thought would be the [series] finale, but now they’re coming back for another year. I have an inkling that I’ll be back for an episode next year. I don’t think they can keep me hanging for too long.”
She was happy, however, to have played the role for most of the last season. “I really wish I was still doing it, but it didn’t work out storyline-wise,” she said. “They had to focus more on Clark and Lois for the continuation of the legend.”
But she did admit that a spin-off was actually in the works. The operative, as always, is the past tense. “They had that in mind when I got the role,” she revealed. “I was supposed to be a guest star for a few [episodes], then it turned into the whole season, and there was talk of a spin-off. But it kind of fizzled out. They kind of went a different route with the network’s shows, going more with the Gossip Girl type of show than the sci-fi.”
So she’s now appearing on yet another sci-fi series, V, a remake of the ’80s miniseries, and serendipity found her there. “I’ve played an alien similar to the one in V before, and they wanted to know if I wanted to be part of it,” she said. “I jumped and said, ‘yeah!’ It was just two days of shooting for me, because it’s an introduction of my character on the pilot. If it goes to series, hopefully the character will evolve.”
Well, it did go to series, showing up on ABC’s midseason sked. But maybe it isn’t goodbye to Smallville just yet.
